Pharmacy whistleblowing rates back to pre-pandemic levels

The number of pharmacy employees making whistleblowing disclosures about a colleague or their employer has returned to pre-pandemic levels, newly published data reveals.

The UK’s eight healthcare professional regulators published their annual report on whistleblowing disclosures yesterday. It reveals that 25 disclosures were made to the GPhC in the 12 months to March 31 this year.

This is over four times the number it received in 2020-21, and three more than in 2019-20.

Of the 25 disclosures made to the GPhC, three are still under review, 12 were investigated and concluded with no further action taken, and a further three were signposted to another organisation.

“The remaining seven cases were concluded by sharing information with inspection colleagues for follow up action,” said the GPhC.

The Nursing and Midwifery Council received the most disclosures at 152, while the General Chiropractic Council received the least at just one.
